Free, and worth more than any supplement

The four that matter

Small and consistent beats dramatic and abandoned

Strongest evidence

Lift something heavy

Resistance training protects the bone density and muscle mass that fall with oestrogen. It is the single most valuable habit in this stage, and two or three sessions a week is enough to matter. Start where you are; progress beats intensity.

Foundational

Protein and calcium

Aim for protein at every meal and adequate calcium for your bones. Muscle needs the raw material, and after 40 your body is less efficient at using it. This is where food outperforms supplements almost every time.

Know your triggers

Caffeine, alcohol, heat

For many women these reliably provoke flushes and fracture sleep. You don't have to give anything up permanently: track for two weeks, learn your own pattern, then decide what's worth it. Knowledge, not restriction.

Underrated

Sleep and stress

Morning daylight, a consistent wind-down, and a real stress practice regulate mood and energy more powerfully than most women expect. Sleep is not a reward for finishing your list. It is the thing that makes the list possible.

These build the floor. We build the rest.

Strength, protein, sleep: that's the foundation. Comfort, desire, connection and identity are what The Shift Method is for.
