It starts years before your periods change.
Perimenopause is the transition, not the destination. Hormones begin fluctuating from your late thirties or early forties, and the first signs are almost never hot flushes. They're sleep, mood, memory, and desire.

Sleep: waking at 3am, or sleep that doesn't refresh you, often the very first sign.
Mood: anxiety, irritability or rage that arrives out of nowhere and doesn't feel like you.
Mind: brain fog, losing words mid-sentence, feeling mentally slower at work.
Cycle: periods heavier, lighter, closer together or skipped entirely.
Desire: libido that dropped or disappeared, and touch that feels different.
Body: new aches, palpitations, or weight change without a change in habits.
Important: your blood tests can be completely normal and you can still be in perimenopause. Diagnosis is clinical, based on your symptoms, age and history. If you've been told "your bloods are fine," that's the beginning of the conversation, not the end of it. Our free guide gives you the exact words for that appointment.
